Subject: commercial size pool at a residence
Having a 45,000 gallon pool in my back yard is like being a very large person having to buy clothes special order. Most of the equipment and chemicals you find, say "up to 40,000 gallons".

I have a Triton TR100C filter that seems to work well. I bought and installed it myself 3 years ago. Two years ago, I bought a new pump. It's a 2hp Pentair superflo. It also seems to work very well.

So, what's the problem? Not really any problems, other than a couple of trees nearby the pool which dump debris into the pool and a 'rigged' return system. I'd like to return to the original 8 return outlets (there is a leak in the original system).

QUESTION: How much better would another TR100C filter make the filtering process? Having a dual filtering system like you see at commercial pools?

Well not sure how much better the quality of the water will be or for that matter the cleaniness of the water...personaly I don't believe you would get the benefit you think you might get. Any way for the repair of the original returns? Have you had the return lines press.tested and tried to isolate where the leak or leaks may be?

I introduced water via a homemade standpipe into the original return line next to the filter several months ago. I bypassed the original return line several years ago and it seems to work fine. But I think it would be even better to go back to the original return system, with its 8 return inlets in the pool.

The results of inducing water barely made the pressure guage build up and the leaks could be noticed in various parts of the yard. The pool is on a slope. There is no doubt that the original return line has a breach, if not several breaches. WHERE the breaches is/are is the question. A picture of my pool would probably help you.

The eight return inlets are half way down the wall like most typical returns. I hope the pictures gets to you and can be opened. The picture I sent shows the pool after the commercial liner was installed last fall. It also shows the pump/filter in the background.

45,000 gallons is a bit large for a resisdencial pool but no where as large as most commercial pools. Your filter is plenty large enough to handle it , and you do not need to add a second filter to your system. If you would like to repair your original return lines a good leak technician should be able to pressure test the lines and locate and repair where the problem or problems are.In many areas in the states there are specialized leak detection companies kinda like a franchise operations called American Leak Detection. You may want to see if there is one near you that could help you out, or any good pool service company that offers leak detection service might be a good option for you to look into. I certainly beliecve leaks should be repaired as long as they are not too expensive where it just doesn't make sense to fix them. Usually the cost to repair them is worth it compared to the expense incured to keep adding water and chemicals to compensate for the water lose.

Tom, I'm not losing water since the commercial liner was installed last fall and I have run an ad hoc return line. I just would like to revert back to the 'original' return line. Mainly, because the return inlets are properly spaced around the pool.

And I have used American Leak Detection before. The have to drive up from Little Rock. I live 125 miles northeast of Little Rock. Their visit did no good regarding the leaks in the 'shell' of the pool. I fixed cracks for the last 6 or 7 years, but was given the opportunity to use a company called Renosys to line my pool last year. I am not sure whether my suction lines have a leak or not. I guess suction line leaks are not as bad as pressure line leaks? Regardless, it does not appear that I am losing any water. But once again, it would be nice to revert back to the original return line.

Did my pool picture come through in a post above?

I don't know why the picture will not go through. The file size should not be too big.

Oh well. Now, I am on a quest to find a bargain on a series of pool covers.

I've bought some inexpensive netting type last year. They worked ok, but this year I'd like maybe a mesh kind that will keep the sunlight out, thus no algae.

Aquabos, I'd like for you to see a picture of my pool, so that you can see the obvious challenges.
