Subject: Spa Light
Have a hayward luminaire SP0591SL 120 v, would like to change to the J & J to LEd (LXG). Tried neighbors bulb but there is a copper coil in the fixture that will not allow the bulb to screw in all the way. Can this coil be cut, what is its purpose? Or can we cut it and solder a small wire to the cut ends, so the bulb will fit?

Hi - not sure of the purpose of the spring, give Hayward a call at (908) 355-7995. Not sure if they would/could advise such a modification, but may be able to tell you the purpose of the coil. - Rob

Haywood indicated it is there in case the incanescent bulb would break, it somehow would break the coil and that would cut the power, which would not be a concern with a LED, Coil is not present in main pool light fixture. Haywood only suggestion was to continue to use an OEM bulb.

Was hoping someone else had the same issue an found a work around.
